OUR COMMUNITY STANDARD

Code of Conduct

Lifting weights. Lifting spirits.

Eastlake Barbell Club is built on respect, encouragement, and a shared love of getting stronger. We’re committed to making this a welcoming space where people of every background, identity, body type, ability, and experience level can train with confidence.

Everyone who uses our space has a part in making that happen. This code applies to members, guests, owners, trainers, and staff, including at EBC events and in our online community.

Respect is non-negotiable

We have zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or abuse.

That includes racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, sexual harassment, slurs, threats, unwanted touching, and degrading comments about someone’s body, identity, background, or ability. Calling something a joke does not excuse harmful behavior.

Respect people’s boundaries. If someone asks you to stop an interaction, stop.

Help make this a place people want to be

Give others room to train. Share equipment, clean up after yourself, and treat the space with care.

Encouragement is welcome. Unsolicited comments about someone’s body, fitness level, or performance are not. Ask before offering advice, and respect the answer.

Do not photograph, film, or post identifiable images of other people without their permission. Position your camera so others can train without becoming part of your content.

Look out for each other

Follow posted safety rules and staff instructions. Keep walkways clear, return equipment, and use your own access credentials. Do not admit unauthorized visitors.

If you notice unsafe behavior or someone who may need help, alert a staff member when available. You are never expected to confront someone or put yourself at risk.

Speak up. We’ll take it seriously.

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this code, speak with Gary, Rachel, or Justin, or email hello@eastlakebarbellclub.com. You can report a concern whether it happened to you or someone else.

If your concern involves one of these individuals, you may speak directly with another.

We will handle reports discreetly and share information only as needed to assess and respond to the concern. We cannot promise absolute confidentiality.

Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith or helps with a review is not tolerated.

Email is not monitored continuously. If there is immediate danger or a medical emergency, call 911.

How we respond

We take reports seriously and review concerns fairly and promptly. Depending on the circumstances, we may require someone to leave, suspend access while we review an incident, or terminate their membership or other relationship with EBC.

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal without a prior warning. Being a longtime member, friend, employee, or owner does not put anyone above these standards.

Everyone deserves respect here. Everyone is responsible for showing it.
